In an historic ceremony held precisely at midnight on June 30, 1997, Hong Kong was returned to China, after nearly a century and a half as a British Crown Colony. The change of flag only adds to the uniqueness of this remarkable place: no other land has changed sovereignty in such a manner before. And whatever the future holds, Hong Kong's charm and almost hypnotic attraction will always remain.
